The Ten-Minute Musicals Project and STORIES 1.0

Press and public were invited to one of the first workshops—using six works from the just seven then being developed by The Ten-Minute Musicals Project, under the makeshift umbrella title, Stories 1.0. The individual works, called ‘segments’ to emphasize the intended interdependency, were weaved together dramaturgically and presentationally to create as best a seamless whole as possible at that point, in the effort to gauge the potential of the nascent idea.

Gerald Nachman, SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE:
“‘Stories 1.0’ is enough to give one hope for the future of the American musical… It’s great fun seeing the several miniatures all careening into each other, and a kick watching the tiny rep company play the many roles... Original, brazen, challenging and refreshing—they’re really on to something here…”

Peter Haugen, SACRAMENTO BEE:
“There’s a real freshness about ‘Stories 1.0’ and it’s surprising how well everything ties together… Well-crafted musically, lyrically, and dramatically, it’s an innovative and entertaining idea that surely has a bright future.”

Murry Frymer, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS:
“The birth and baby steps of what promises to grow into a terrific show… A truly rare and original idea in a field rife with copy-cat efforts.”

Scott Rosenberg, SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER:
“A big part of the pleasure is following the transformations of actors through the evening, an immersion in the joys of concentrated repertory acting rarely seen in the American theater, and likely never in a musical… Ambitious, intelligent, and well worth pursuing, it’s a valuable presentation in the making…”

Steve Warren, SAN FRANCISCO BAY GUARDIAN:
“It’s a musical and dramatic feast... A great ride, continually engaging from beginning to end.”
